The Nor'easter of January 2011
You heard about it in the news, read about it on the web, now see it for yourself. On Tuesday evening, around 11:00 PM, a "Nor'easter" hit New England. A Nor'easter is the name given to storms that come across the continent and then hit the eastern seaboard, turn north east and go racing up to New England. The storm brings the moist air from the ocean and usually combineds with the cold air coming down out of Canada. Depending on where that front is located, it either brings wind and rain or wind and snow. This time is was snow. When viewing these pictures, just remember that on Tuesday afternoon there was no snow on the walks, driveway and most of the grass. There was a trace of snow left over from the blizzard that hit New England about 10 days ago, but it was soon covered by the 14" of snow that fell over the next 18 hours. Not a good time for the snow blower to quit working.

The snow was so heavy that it stuck to the branches and cause the plants to bend over too much.

Looks like the deer won't be eating this evergreen for some time.

The adirondack chairs that Jon built in woodshop in high school are not only a treat to sit in when the weather is nice but they are also a good measuring device on how much snowfall comes down.

Definitely I will have to shovel a path for Sophie to get out and do her business.

I am only shoveling half of the walk - so I don't have a heart attack.

The secret of getting the snow off of the driveway is to get off all that you can and then let the sun do the rest. It heats up the asphalt and then the heat dissipates to the snow and ice.

August 23, 2008 Jonathan's Big Day!

The Night Before The Big Day!

The Kellers and the Monsons decided it would be fun to eat dinner together so we could all let our hair down and get to know each other better. It was such an enjoyable evening full of laughs and winding down before we were put into overdrive on the wedding day!

David's Birthday!
David had to celebrate his birthday on the road while we were in preparation for Jonathan's wedding. But he was alright with that, since his birthday wish was for the "Jazz" basketball team sweatshirt and things...so what better place to be than in Utah! Happy 17th birthday David!

Rebecca's Bridal Shower

Rachael, Jessica and myself threw a bridal shower for Rebecca at Gardner Village in Utah. We had a great time meeting her family and getting to know each other better. Jessica made a darling towel wedding cake for Jon and Rebecca with all the bathroom accessories they needed. It was really cute. It was a great girls night out!

Queen for the Day!

August 19th was my birthday and Thatcher crowned me Queen for the day. We had a great par-tay and a yummy dinner at Smoky Bones! Thatcher loved that I wore my crown out to dinner, the rest of the family did not.

Rachael, Thatcher and Taggart came to visit for 3 weeks. We had a great time. Thatcher loves tractors and enjoyed riding with me on the lawn mower. Can't wait for him to come where he can ride it himself, for about 2 1/2 hours!

On April 7th, Michael celebrated #51. For a treat, we thought we would try out a Mexican restaurant here in RI that many people like. Just to fill you in, New Englanders don't really like spicy food, so there are very few Mexican restaurant here. The ration of Italian to Mexican restaurants is somewhere around 400:1. So we go to "Mr. Taco" (we should've relized that with that name we were if for trouble) and basically leave before any of us finished our dinners. Bad doesn't describe it - it was more like muy mal! A birthday dinner to remember.

In March, David played on the Ward YM/YW volleyball team. They came in 2nd in the Stake tournament, due the all YM team from Warwick. Here we see David getting ready to set up the serve from the other team.

Jon went back to BYU-I in January, so to help him out at school, we got this great deal on a Saturn Ion. Here is Jon and Mike just before they embarked on their cross country drive to Idaho. They made the trip with the families new toy - a Garmin GPS handheld. According to Mike, it is the greatest thing to come along since caffeine-free Dr. Pepper!

He did so by tearing the ball out of the opponent's arms to cause a fumble and then fell on the ball to recover it...he later stopped the opposing team on the one yard line from making a winning touch down by causing another fumble and retrieving that one as well. His team went crazy! And the Varsity coach congratulated David by presenting him with the "game" football.

On Friday the 13th, East Greenwich High School's Freshman football team won their 2nd game. During the game, David intercepted a pass, becoming the only defensive lineman (David plays defensive nose guard) to get an interception this year.
Here David is being congratulated by one of his coaches after the game. It was a great moment for David! For this game, David was acknowledge by his team mates as one of the outstanding players. And who said that Friday the 13th is an unlucky day? For David, it was one of the best days of the year!
